When to Start a Healthy Habits Journey


If you are considering starting a health and wellness journey, you may be wondering when you should start. We’ve all heard phrases like “Diet starts Monday” or “New Year, New You.” So when is the best time to start?

First, you have to remember that when it comes to being healthy, there are three components on which we must focus:

  • Mindset
  • Healthy eating habits
  • Movement

Mindset is everything when it comes to wellness journeys. Believe it or not, our mindset sets the tone for our progress. If you have a good mindset around healthy living, it will get easier. One small mindset change you can start with is STOP referring to your health journey as a “diet.” It is not a diet. Diets are temporary, and we are trying to build long-lasting habits. You are not going on a diet! 

So when should you start? The answer is simple. START TODAY! Your health cannot wait. Unfortunately, none of us know how much time we have. If we want to maximize our well-being and live long, healthy lives, we have to make ourselves a priority! 

Here are three reasons why today is the best day to start:

1. The right time to start your health journey was actually last year! You can try to argue that the weather is too cold and you will wait until spring/summer. You can say that your job is too stressful, the kids are too busy, etc. There is no time to waste. Remember, tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us! 

2. Your health just can’t wait! Also, it shouldn’t wait! Your health should always be your priority. Let’s get going!

3. Do you want to stay exactly where you are? You probably aren’t reading this unless you are hoping to change. If you wait, you will remain where you are. Make the first step if you want to move forward and have a healthier lifestyle and body!

A lifestyle change may seem like a daunting task. You don’t have to do it all at once.

Pick one healthy habit to start today. For example:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Eat one carrot with lunch
  • Start changing your mindset and thinking of health as a priority instead of making everything and everyone else more important.

There will always be a reason NOT to start. There will never be a perfect situation. Your health can’t and shouldn’t wait. That’s why the answer is… START TODAY!
