Progressive Pediatrics Breastfeeding Support

Progressive Pediatrics Reliable Breastfeeding Information

If you or someone you know is a breast feeding mom, you know how important it is to get reliable information about breast feeding and related issues. The fact is, breast feeding protects babies by allowing the mother to pass on her immunity to her child naturally and should not be the subject of political debate.

Here at Progressive Pediatrics, we are strong supporters of breast feeding and the rights of breast feeding moms. As strong supporters of mothers who wish to breastfeed, we work closely with lactation consultants and nurses to ensure your use of proper technique. Our goal is to help you achieve ultimate breast feeding success. That’s why we teach soon-to-be nursing mothers:

  • How breast milk is made
  • How to get off to a good start
  • Best breast feeding holds
  • When your baby has had enough
  • How the law protects you
  • How to breastfeed in public
  • How to respond to criticism

Breastfeeding Guidelines…

Make sure your baby is latching on and receiving milk. Aim for 8-12 feedings per day for 20 or 30 minutes each. Keep track of how often your newborn urinates to help us assess feeding success. Don’t bundle your baby too heavily when breast feeding. Ask us about the best breast feeding positions. Plan to breastfeed your baby for at least the first six months. There is no age limit on how long a child should breastfed, and breast feeding practices vary according to family habits and culture.

For your comfort and convenience, we have a private breast feeding room available for moms who may feel self-conscious or anxious about breast feeding more publicly. Should you decide not to breastfeed and use formula instead, we will support that decision, as well.

Pumping Guidelines…

Follow the “Rule of 5” for expressed milk. Do not keep it at room temperature for more than 5 hours, refrigerate for more than 5 days or store in the freezer for more than 5 months.
